How to Find the Perfect College (and Compete on their Track Team) Part 1

It's Junior year of high school and you're starting to think about college. You want to compete for a track team in college. You want to earn a college scholarship. You want to find the school of your dreams that will give you that scholarship and be the place you want to spend the next 4 years of your life.

Every year around this time, I get pulled aside by athletes and parents at the gym and receive hundreds of emails from athletes asking about college. The questions always sound a little like this:

"How Can I Get College Coaches to Look at Me?"

"How Can I Get Noticed More By College Coaches?"

"How Can I Be More Attractive to College Programs?"

Here's the're asking the wrong questions. You're looking at this the "old fashioned way."

You're trying to be the attractive person at the club who wants to be approached by people and hit on like a piece of meat.

I remember those days. Going out to a restaurant or a club with friends, sitting at a table near the bar, and watching a bunch of random dudes approach the pretty girl at the bar trying to hit on her. It was actually really funny to watch, but I started to notice something. All those guys were basically random strangers who all looked different, were all different ages, body types, hair color, dressed differently, etc.

There could have been hundreds of guys at this club. Maybe there were 10 or 15 that were actually attractive to the girl. But rather than being the outgoing one and trying meet one of those 10 or 15 guys, she sat back and waited for them to approach her.

If she wanted to increase her odds of meeting a guy she actually liked, she should have been going out to meet them! Instead she was sitting there getting approached by a bunch of dudes she had absolutely no interest in!

This, believe it or not, is why online dating is so successful. Instead of waiting for one person to find you, you get to go out and choose the people that you actually like! You get to be the aggressive one!

With online dating, you get to pick a few people from a pool of hundreds (sometimes thousands) of people that you are attracted to based on their profile. Selecting a college works the same way. Watch the video below to learn more.

Don't sit around hoping for an attractive school to find you. You need to be the outgoing one and reach out to schools that you like!

Over the next few weeks, I will be writing more blog posts and videos explaining how to find your "type" of college, how to know if you can be a part of their college team, how to approach college coaches to let them know you are interested, and ways to stay on their radar to hopefully get that scholarship and be a part of that school.
